Having your teeth whitened, whether at home or by a professional, is one of the easiest and most effective ways to achieve a radiant smile which can really boost your confidence.
Although your teeth can slowly become discoloured over time by the foods you eat and beverages you drink there are other factors such as genetics, trauma, smoking, aging and medication that can change the shade of your teeth as well. And despite what you may hear, it can be incredibly difficult, if not impossible, to match the colours of restorations like front fillings, veneers or crowns by using store bought kits.
At William Street Dental we offer two teeth whitening systems to fight back against discolouration and restore and transform your smile quickly, effectively and safely.
Our home bleaching system creates a whiter, brighter smile gradually over the course of a few weeks. By using a lower, and therefore safer, concentration of the whitening agent you will achieve longer lasting results without harming any delicate soft tissue.
When you visit your practice we will create a custom-made soft plastic tray that you will fill with the whitening gel and place over your teeth each night for about 2- 3 weeks. When you have completed the treatment we’ll have a look at the results and together we’ll decide if you need further treatment.

As long as your teeth are healthy and the treatment is done correctly you should have no problems whatsoever. The tooth whitening procedures we use are incredibly safe and time-tested and we will conduct a a full assessment before we start any treatment.
Depending on how sensitive your teeth are, no, you shouldn’t feel any pain or discomfort from the tooth whitening process. However, some people have naturally sensitive teeth, in which case we will provide a desensitising gel a few weeks before your whitening treatment. Rest assured we will do everything we make to make the treatment as comfortable as possible.
Unfortunately, no. The bleaching agents used in whitening treatments only react to natural tooth enamel. However, if you are unhappy with your current crowns or fillings, our specialist can talk to you about your various options.
